Ancient Worm Fossil Named in Honor of Shock Rocker Alice Cooper

By editorial board on March 3, 2024

A fossil of a 190-million-year-old worm has been found in Denmark, and it’s going to join the league of ancient creatures named after famous rock stars. The fossil has been named Serpula alicecooperi after famed American shock-rocker Alice Cooper.

The Alice Cooper fossil is a serpulid worm. This is a type of marine worm that is capable of creating calcium tubes to live in. These creatures can filter sea water with their tentacles and retract into their calcium tubes when threatened. We don’t know how this screams “Alice Cooper”, but it’s an honor nonetheless.

Alice Cooper has launched a new radio show entitled Alice’s Attic.

The veteran rocker’s show, which was launched in the US and Australia yesterday (February 5), will feature a “curated mix of classic and some obscure rock, with an occasional ‘future classic’ song, plus Cooper’s stories and commentary about the music and artists he features” according to a press release.

It will air for five hours from Monday to Thursday and follows his long-running Nights With Alice Cooper show which ended last year after a 20 year run.“To all of my insane radio minions, I’m BACK,” Cooper said. “And if you thought 20 years of Nights With Alice Cooper was weird, just wait until you get into Alice’s Attic!

Alice Cooper will release a 50th-anniversary edition of his band's only No. 1 album, Billion Dollar Babies, on March 8.

The two-CD or three-LP expanded Trillion Dollar Deluxe Edition reissue includes a disc of live recordings from the era, outtakes and single versions. You can see the track listing below.

Billion Dollar Babies, which was originally released in early 1973, shot to No. 1 on the chart, stayed there for 50 weeks and reached platinum status. The LP spawned four singles that reached the Top 60: "Elected," "Hello Hurray," "No More Mr. Nice Guy" and the title track.

The upcoming reissue features a newly remastered version of the album; the vinyl edition includes the original textured gatefold sleeve and a $1 billion bill. The single version of "Elected" from the set is available for streaming now.
