One of the first business ventures by The Beatles' Apple Corps was the Apple Boutique, which opened on 7 December 1967. It was located at 94 Baker Street, London, and closed on 31st July 1968

The Beatles decided the previous day to close down their Apple Boutique in Baker Street, and announced that they would give away the stock. Members of the public queued throughout the night for a chance of getting a free item.

The Beatles' Apple Boutique closes down, 31 July 1968

It was a big event and all the kids came and just took everything that was in the shop. That was the best thing about the whole shop, when we gave it all away. But the night before, we all went in and took what we wanted. It wasn't much, T-shirts... it was great, it was like robbing. We took everything we wanted home.
And the next day we were watching, and there were thousands of kids all going in and getting their freebies. It was great. Of course, Derek and the others hated it but it so happened that I was running the office at that time, so we were in control. Paul had called me up one day and said, 'I'm going away. You take over.' It was as stupid as that. - John Lennon

We went in the night before and took everything we wanted. We had loads of shirts and jackets – we cleaned a lot of the stuff out. It wasn't a sale, we just gave it all away, and that was the best idea. In the end, of course, people were coming with wheelbarrows. It was silly, but we had wanted to open a shop and dress everyone like us.-Ringo Starr

The Beatles Apple boutique on 94 Baker Street, London, opened its doors. The store closed seven months later when it fell foul of council objections over the psychedelic mural painted on the outside. All the goods from the shop were given away free to passers by and to people who had queued throughout the night for a chance of getting a free item.

Clive Epstein or some other such business freak came up to us and said, 'You got to spend so much money or the tax'll take it. We're thinking of opening a chain of retail clothes,' or some barmy thing like that. And we were all muttering about, 'Well, if we're going to have to open a shop, let's open something we're interested in.' We went through all these different ideas about this, that and the other. Paul had a nice idea about opening up white houses where it would sell white china and things like that, everything white because you can never get anything white, which is pretty groovy. It didn't end up with that, it ended up with Apple, with all this junk and The Fool and all the stupid clothes and all that.John Lennon, 1970
The Beatles opened their Apple Boutique on Baker Street in central London in December 1967. It was the perfect place to buy psychedelic clothes that reflected the band's hippy values and the exterior was initially covered with swirling, multi-coloured paint, created by the collective The Fool.
Yet the store attracted a great deal of shoplifters and Paul McCartney said it was "concerned with fun, not frocks", which did not prove to be a savvy business plan. It closed just eight months after being launched; the venture was simply losing too much money. On the plus side, customers were allowed to take a piece of clothing for free on the final day.
The launch party for the Apple Boutique in December 1967 was attended by John & Cynthia Lennon, George & Pattie Harrison, Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce, Cilla Black.Barry Finch employed art students to paint a psychedelic style mural, designed by The Fool (a design collective), across the building’s facades between 10 and 12 November 1967.
Planning permission had not been sought and the artwork was ordered to be covered in white paint to satisfy Westminster Council
