Jewel gets in touch with her country heart – Orange County Register

Singer-songwriter Jewel has released a special 25th anniversary edition of her sophomore album Spirit on November 17. The 25th anniversary edition of Spirit includes 23 new tracks, including previously unreleased live recordings, demos, and remixes.

Jewel has released “Down So Long (Live At Colegio Oficial de Medicos de Madrid, Spain – February 11th 1999)” from the highly anticipated 25th Anniversary Edition of her multi-platinum, sophomore album Spirit, out November 17 via Craft Recordings.

The deluxe album, which will arrive on two-CD and digital platforms, also features the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter’s Top 10 US hit “Hands,” and fan favorite “Jupiter (Swallow the Moon),” plus 23 bonus tracks, including eight previously unreleased demos and outtakes, rare live performances from the era, alternate takes, remixes, and much more.

This updated version of the beloved album will feature expanded and remastered reissues, as announced in a press release. The deluxe version includes the top 10 U.S. hit “Hands” plus other tracks “Down So Long” and “Jupiter (Swallow the Moon).”

The new Spirit also includes 23 bonus tracks, eight of which are unreleased demos and outtakes, as well as live performance cuts from the late ’90s, alternate takes, remixes, and more.

“I also get to share this with my son now – it’s incredibly special to tell him stories about what was happening in my life and the world during this time. Whether you heard Spirit back then or are just discovering it now, I appreciate you listening.”

The singer-songwriter appeared on Fox’s The Masked Singer for its Christmas special in 2021, where she took the stage to perform her song “Hands” with her son, Kase, who was then 10 years old. Ahead of the Spirit anniversary edition, Jewel has shared a studio outtake version of “Hands,” released on September 20, as well.

Recently Jewel has helped create a new platform to provide support around mental health.
According to a press release, Innerworld is “the largest community in the metaverse for mental health support.”

Jewel is leading a series of events, including how to use anxiety as an ally and teaching a course on the topic of emotional dyslexia and how she’s personally overcome emotional challenges. Other classes focus on living with a chronic disability or illness, introduction to silent meditation, dealing with grief and much more.

Jewel faced a series of struggles during her youth, including growing up in an abusive household and experiencing homelessness when she was 18, turning to meditation later in life to help her heal.

“When I found Innerworld, I knew it was an incredible solution to our mental health crisis,” Jewel says in a press statement. “We must turn to safe, affordable, scalable and proven tools to help everyone who needs it. The time for talking about the problem is over–we need solutions. That’s why I am a proud Co-Founder of Innerworld.”

"Innerworld is a scalable solution that's available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, offering real, peer-to-peer support," Jewel tells PEOPLE.

The platform combines evidence-based mental health support with the immersive power of social virtual worlds, offering an alternative to traditional talk therapy. Anyone can attend live mental health support groups in virtual reality on the Meta Quest or via flat screen on Mac, PC, iPad and iPhone. For extra features such as unlimited group sessions, costs start at $8/month.

"If you're acutely triggered, you can log into Innerworld," says Jewel, who is also the company's Chief Strategy Officer. "Everyone has an avatar, and there's a live guide, and there's constant peer-to-peer programming based on established cognitive behavioral methods."
