She preaches well and rails badly: the day before she preaches peace and next day sued
a huge sum to a very small firm. Let it be Yoko.
Yoko Ono has threatened to sue a small British lemonade firm trying to market a new 'John Lemon' drink.Ono Lennon’s lawyers said the lemonade infringed the trademark of her late husband’s name and his personal rights. They claimed damages in the range of €5,000 (£4,400) a day and €500 for every bottle sold and asked the court in The Hague, the Netherlands, to determine damages.
The 86-year-old claims the drink is infringing on the John Lennon EU trademark and the name of her late husband.Karol Chamera, founder of Mr Lemonade Alternative Drinks, the UK distributor of John Lemon which is based in Bow, London, told the East London Advertiser: “All of us involved with this product are startups and we couldn’t take on someone who is worth many, many millions.”
However, the company that distributes the product in the UK argues that the lemonade's name is not linked at all to the Beatles' legend.
Karol Chamera, 32, founder of Mr Lemonade Alternative Drinks Ltd, insists UK sales of the drink have not been linked to Lennon's name or image.
However, he said fighting the threatened lawsuit was impossible because they simply could not afford to pay Ono's legal costs.
oris Van Manen, from law firm Hoyng Rokh Monegier, which acted for Ono, said: 'They were abusing and misusing the legacy of John Lennon to sell their soda.
'I believe they are now going to call the drink On Lemon instead, which is much better.'
