The Kinks legends Ray and Dave Davies unite for historic London art exhibition

By VMZ Staff on July 24, 2026

The Kinks’ founding brothers, Ray and Dave Davies, are joining forces with acclaimed painter Christian Furr for a landmark summer art exhibition

Titled "The Kinks: Brothers," the exhibition will run from July 24 to September 6, 2026, at the prestigious Gibson Garage London, marking a unique creative reunion for the legendary siblings.

The inspiration for the collection stems from a vintage 1968 passport photobooth photograph of Ray and Dave taken in East Finchley, North London. Furr has reimagined this intimate moment across a series of vibrant, original paintings. When Dave Davies first saw the completed artworks, he was so deeply moved that he immediately began painting directly onto the canvases himself, adding a raw, collaborative layer to the physical pieces.

Visual art has always been deeply woven into the fabric of the band's history. Before they changed the face of global rock music, Ray studied painting at Hornsey College of Art, while Dave has pursued painting for decades. The brothers' creative journey originally began in the front room of their childhood home in Muswell Hill, where they wrote and rehearsed their earliest material, including the seminal 1964 hit "You Really Got Me."

For this exhibition, Furr channelled the bright, luminous energy of pop art, Matisse, and punk—visual styles he associates with the band’s iconic catalog. Every original painting on display is hand-signed by Ray, Dave, and Christian Furr. A series of signed, limited-edition prints will also be made available for fans to purchase.

The venue itself holds special significance. The Gibson Garage London is the flagship UK home of the legendary guitar brand, whose instruments famously helped define the band's pioneering, distorted rock sound. To celebrate the launch, free limited-edition prints will be hidden at three secret locations across London connected to the group's historic past, offering fans a unique treasure hunt across the capital.
