Charli XCX's new single, "House," has just been released. It was composed for the soundtrack of Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights, the new screen adaptation of Charlotte Brontë's classic, due out in Italy in February 2026. For this first single (and its video), the "Brat" artist also enlisted the help of John Cale of the Velvet Underground. Although, at first glance, it seems that this new album will have little in common with her previous one.
Dark atmospheres, blackness reigning supreme, and the protagonist is a crow that alternates between a bird and Charli's transfiguration.
The setting is the claustrophobic one of a bedroom, and the two voices join together: "I think I'm gonna die in this house." The pop star announced the upcoming release of the single on her social media four days ago ("The first offering from my new album for Emerald Fennell's adaptation of Wuthering Heights. Yours, Monday"), and this evening she greeted it with this: "If there's beauty, say it's enough," an apparent reference to the stories of love, passion, and pain that will feature Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw, played by Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie, respectively.
