Swift asked Boyd what living inside Beatlemania was actually like to which Boyd replied, ‘absolutely terrifying’.
“I got to see the Beatles play at a theater in London, and George told me that I should leave with my friends before the last number,” she told Swift in the Harper’s Bazarre feature.
“So before the last song, we got up from our seats and walked toward the nearest exit door, and there were these girls behind me. They followed us out, and they were kicking me and pulling my hair and pushing us all the way down this long passageway. She then told Taylor that, while chasing her, the girls were yelling: “We hate you!”.
She added that she feels fans seem to no longer hold onto the antagonistic feelings they once had. “Actually they seem happy that I’m sharing the photographs I took,” she added. “One time I was having an exhibition, and these girls turned up dressed like me in A Hard Day’s Night.”
During the interview, Swift mentions a particular part of Boyd’s book that she found most heartbreaking. “When, years later, you and Eric get married, and George and his new wife, Olivia, come to the wedding party, Paul comes, Ringo comes, but John couldn’t go. He said later that he would have loved to come. That night there was a huge jam session, and had he been there it would have been the last time the Beatles played together.”
Boyd has spoken about a new documentary film about Clapton, which reveals details of her relationships with the two rock rivals.
By the time The Beatles broke up, Boyd and Harrison’s relationship had reached a rough patch. He treated her coldly and was far more interested in his spiritual development than in their marriage.
Despite she and Clapton having no relationship today, she did participate in the upcoming officially sanctioned Showtime documentary, Eric Clapton: Life In 12 Bars, which she described as “a brutally honest portrayal of someone in pain.”
She believed they had to have a guitar battle because they were “boy-men: immature emotionally.” They were not able to discuss it maturely.
Throughout the 1970s, Boyd became increasingly concerned about Harrison’s fidelity. She noted that he was very close with Ringo Starr’s wife, Maureen Starkey. As it turned out, she was right to be worried. She returned home one day to discover that Harrison and Starkey had locked themselves in a room together.
“Ringo didn’t have a clue what was going on until I rang him one day and said, ‘Have you ever thought about why your wife doesn’t come home at night? It’s because she’s here!’” she wrote. “And he flew into a rage.”
Harrison denied the affair until one tense night at Starr’s house when Harrison admitted to being in love with Starkey. This was the final straw for both couples’ marriages.
Boyd — who married third husband, property developer Rod Weston in 2015 — spoke about the doc, saying: “I think he’s brave to have done it. It showed me so many of Eric’s problems stemmed from his childhood and how unbearably cruel his mother was.”
In an interview with The Times magazine today Pattie, now 73 and married to her third husband Rod Weston, is asked who was the love of her life.
She replied: “I think George. He was always very loving.” “Even after we split he was always my friend. We’d still speak on the phone.“And he came to see me before he died. If you love somebody you do that. And I think he always loved me.”She is less flattering about Erid though, saying: “Eric loves himself. I don’t think there’s much room for me.”
