About 270 fans packed into a sweltering room to see the singer, after they were given the opportunity to get free tickets by queuing at the Echo Arena box office on Thursday morning when the gig was announced..'It felt like we'd got the golden ticket'.

It was impossible to escape a sense of history seeing a Beatle in the Cavern. There were crowds thronging Matthew Street in Liverpool, thrilled just by their proximity to this cosmic showbiz event: the biggest star in pop history in the smallest venue in his hometown.
The original club closed in 1973 but reopened a short distance away. Sir Paul has only played there once since the '60s, performing there in 1999.The gig is at 14:00 BST on Thursday and 200 free tickets were made available but have now all been snapped up.
