Metallica Announce Deluxe ‘Load’ Reissue With More Than 30 Hours of Music

By VMZ Staff on May 1, 2025

Out June 13, band unleashes “the whole kitchen sink” for 15-CD/six-LP/four-DVD box set celebrating 1996 album: concerts, demos, outtakes, rarities, and more, totaling 245 unreleased tracks

Metallica will revisit their 1996 album Load with a remastered reissue that includes a “Super Deluxe” edition that clocks in at 30 hours, much of it unreleased music.

Out June 13 via their Blackened Records, the Load reissue will be released as a remastered 2LP, CD, and cassette, as well as an expanded 3CD version. Both the 2LP and 3CD versions feature the album closer “The Outlaw Torn” unedited for the first time, as time constraints forced the track to be cut short on the original 78-minute-and-59-second-long album.

The Load reissue is available to preorder now. Check out the never-ending track list below:

Through the Sea of Hearts… initiative, Metallica will be organising blood donation drives at select upcoming concerts across the US. Sign-ups are required as the drives are appointment-based.

JUNE

Recently Metallica staged their annual Helping Hands benefit concert Friday night in Los Angeles, with the heavy metal legends delivering a set full of long-unplayed songs, covers, and classics across their acoustic-and-electric sets.

The concert at Inglewood, California’s YouTube Theater opened with an acoustic take on “Low Man’s Lyric,” marking the first time the band has played the Reload track since 1998.

Metallica followed that up with covers of Diamond Head’s “Helpless” (their first time playing that song since 2018, and previously featured on the $5.98 E.P.) and their debut performance of Bachman-Turner Overdrive’s “Away From Home.”

Metallica closed out the first set with their first-ever acoustic take on 72 Seasons’ “If Darkness Had a Son” and “Nothing Else Matters,” both backed by a string section.

The charity - which supports "workforce education, the fight against hunger, and other critical local services" - has so far raised a whopping $15 million for various non-profit organisations.

It is also extending its Metallica Scholars Initiative.

Last year's concert saw Metallica bring out St. Vincent and have Greta Van Fleet perform.

Among the organisations to benefit from the money raised was Baby2Baby, First Star, Feeding America, World Central Kitchen, mikeroweWorks Foundation and The Skatepark Project.

The band's star-studded 2021 covers album ‘The Metallica Blacklist’ made a whopping $1 million (£824,430).

Metallica and their collaborators - including Miley Cyrus, Phoebe Bridgers and Chris Stapleton - chose the non-profits they wished the money to go to.

Metallica's All Within My Hands Foundation previously donated $100,000 to those affected by California's devastating wildfires in 2018.

The 'Nothing Else Matters' rockers - comprising James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Rob Trujilo, and Kirk Hammett - founded All Within My Hands
