After the success of this year’s biopic A Complete Unknown, a whole new generation has learned about the lyricism, nasal vocal style and often-frustrating nature of Bob Dylan.
And this month they will get the chance to discover he is also a painter, as the songwriter exhibits a series of original artworks – created with “emotional resonance” – in London.
Dylan, 83, will unveil 97 recent works featuring characters, objects and various scenes at the Halcyon Gallery.
And it seems that he is not only still touring in his 80s, but also painting. The show, Point Blank, is based on original sketches created by Dylan between 2021 and 2022. They depict people playing instruments, couples, sportspeople – along with rooms and places where Dylan spent time.
When Bob Dylan lived in Woodstock, NY, he took up painting. After trading one of those pieces for an astrology chart 50 years ago, the piece has now sold for $196,156 at auction.
RR Auction announced the release on Friday, May 24th, which coincidentally happened to be Dylan’s birthday as well. 
Dylan’s first exhibition of artwork was The Drawn Blank Series, unveiled at Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz, Germany in 2007. Retrospectrum was initially conceived for the Modern Art Museum (MAM) in Shanghai, China, where it first opened in 2019.

One of the most influential musicians of the past century, Bob Dylan's artistic vision transcends beyond the stage. Just as he has drawn on traditional folk and blues in his music, Bob Dylan's paintings are awash with classic American imagery of diners, motels and railroads.

For Dylan, art is simply another way of expressing himself when words fail. But it's also a way of filling time. When at a loose end between concerts he will often sketch. His artwork first became public in the 1970s when it appeared on his album sleeves such as Self-Portrait and Planet Waves. In his drawings Dylan tries to put "orderliness to the chaos around".
Bob Dylan's art is a glimpse of the world through his eyes. These paintings show a man on the periphery, constantly peering in, observing and are somewhat telling of life on tour. Views of hotel rooms, car parks and awkward looking people in bars are just some of the subjects he paints.
