
Burton’s movie is a sequel to 1988’s Beetlejuice, his second feature following his debut, Pee-wee’s Big Adventure. The gothic fantasy director earned significant acclaim with the film, which starred Winona Ryder, Michael Keaton, Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis. It garnered significant box office success, putting Burton on the map as one of cinema’s greatest new directors.
There has been much excitement surrounding Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which will also star some new faces. Jenna Ortega, a new Burton favourite following her role as the lead in Wednesday, will play Astrid, Lydia’s daughter. Monica Bellucci will star as an ex-lover of Beetlejuice, while Justin Theroux will portray Lydia’s husband, and Willem Dafoe will make an appearance as a ghost.
Its debut will mark the beginning of the Venice Film Festival, although it’ll be screened out of competition. After being shown at the iconic festival on August 28th, it is set for release worldwide on September 6th, allowing everyone to enjoy the long-awaited sequel.
