Weddings in the sparkling rock world and its anecdotes.

On May 1, 1967, the real Elvis Presley, King of Rock ’n’ Roll, married his girlfriend of many years, Priscilla Beaulieu, far from Graceland, at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas. There were no impersonators in sight, but there were members of the press, who were invited by the star’s manager to a press conference between the intimate ceremony and champagne breakfast for 100 that followed. Though relatively discreet for a celebrity wedding, this was one for the books. Forty-nine years after Elvis and Priscilla said “I do” (but not “I obey”), we revisit, in detail, the couple’s big day.wedding elvis

Before the reception, Parker had arranged for the lovebirds to give a press conference, after which they joined 100 guests seated at 10 round tables for a champagne breakfast, served buffet style at the hotel. There are many photos of the couple with their
five-foot-tall, six-tier cake, which was made of yellow sponge, filled with apricot marmalade and kirsch-flavored Bavarian cream, and iced with kirsch-flavored fondant icing. It was decorated with royal icing and, according to one account, 1,600 marzipan roses. Source Vogue

Macca

It was just another night out in London for Paul McCartney. After attending Brian Epstein’s dinner party to celebrate the completion of Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, the Beatles‘ bassist hit the town with some buddies. McCartney headed to Soho’s Bag O’Nails club, where he was a regular with his own table. That night, May 15, 1967, Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames were playing. (source: ultimateclassicrock)wedding

A young photographer by the name of Linda Eastman had been taken to the Bag O’Nails by some of her friends. Her career began when she shot the Rolling Stones,   Hendrix, the Who, Aretha Franklin, Janis Joplin and many others. There McCartney start dating with Linda and soon got married.

  George Harrison

I bought a Mary Quant pinky-red shot-silk dress, which came to just above the knee, and I wore it with creamy stockings and pointy red shoes. On top, because it was January and cold, I wore a red fox-fur coat, also by Mary Quant, that George gave me. She made George a beautiful black Mongolian lamb coat.

The ceremony took place early in the morning aweddingt Epsom register office, in Surrey, not the most glamorous place, and the room was very hot and stuffy. Brian Epstein was there and Paul McCartney, who was George's best man. Otherwise it was family – my mother, with her cousin Penny Evans, who had been around a lot while I was growing up. Colin, Jenny, Paula, David and Boo, George's parents and brothers. Uncle John, my mother's twin brother, gave me away. Lennonwedding lennon

On March 20, 1969, John Lennon married Yoko Ono. The two met in November 1966 as she was preparing to open an art exhibit called Unfinished Paintings and Objects, which was held at the Indica Gallery, located in the basement of the Indica Bookshop in London. (Coincidentally, one of the shop’s earliest supporters was Paul McCartney.)

At the time, Lennon was still married to his first wife, Cynthia. After years of putting up with her husband’s infidelity, Cynthia filed for divorce in August 1968.  “We wanted to get married on a cross-channel ferry – that was the romantic part,” Lennon said “We went to Southampton and then we couldn’t get on because she wasn’t English, and she couldn’t get the day visa to go across. They said, ‘Anyway, you can’t get married. The Captain’s not allowed to do it any more. That's why we went to Gibilterra'”

The Rolling Stones singer, Mick Jagger, has married his fiancée Bianca Pérez-Mora Macias at the town hall in the French Mediterranean town of St Tropez.

The civil ceremony was held up for almost an hour-and-a-half, after bitter arguments between Mr Jagger's spokesman and the police over the number of reporters and photographers in the wedding chamber.

A pool of four photographers had been invited to the town hall, but as the time of the ceremony approached about 100 cameramen and other journalists packed the chamber. wedding jagger

The acrimony began when Bianca refused to sign a 28-page pre-nuptial agreement (Jagger’s stint at the London School of Economics in the pre-Stones years has always been evident).

Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, the former having recently filed a lawsuit against his three former band-mates, had to be sat apart like two class disrupting rascals. Rumours abound that Keith Richards wore a Nazi uniform. With the pregnant Bianca having retired early, Keith Moon abseiled into the sixth-floor honeymoon suite, naked bar a pair of eyeballs-on-springs novelty glasses and a pair of knickers on his head.

Pete Townshend is fighting to save his £40million fortune after his wife of 40 years filed for divorce.

Karen Astley, who has been separated from The Who guitarist for 15 years, has hired Fiona Shackleton, the formidable lawyer who represented Sir Paul McCartney in his split from Heather Mills.

The couple's decree nisi, the first stage of the divorce process, was announced in the High Court yesterday.

While Sir Paul remained married to Linda until her death from cancer in 1998, he went on to marry again.

Paul  Simon Carrie Fisher

Paul Simon and carry Fisher: a fast marriage and faster divorce. The two were involved in a turbulent relationship for nearly 12 years, which began in the '80s, where they both married an then divorced within a year due to Fisher's heavy drug abuse.

In Simon's biography "Homeward Bound," author Peter Ames Carlin detailed the singer's connection with Fisher — who died  at 60 — noting that "once they saw each other, no one else mattered to either of them."Fisher wrote in her own memoir “Wishful Drinking” that Simon’s classic hit “She Moves On” was actually about her leaving. In it, he sings that he was both “abandoned” and “forsaken.”“She says ‘Ooh my storybook lover // You have underestimated my power.

Ronnie Wood

The rock star faces a possible £50 million divorce settlement after Jo allegedly contacted her lawyers because of his continuing relationship with a 20-year-old Russian.

Wood, 61, was recently photographed enjoying a romantic meal with Ekaterina Ivanova at a fashionable London restaurant. His wife now reportedly just wants to be friends with him rather than married.

Speaking at the Berkeley Square Ball, she told The Daily Mail: "We've been through too much together not to stay as friends whatever happens next. "I'm still in touch with him and I've seen him And despite everything I still really care for Ronnie."

Kate Moss and Ronnie Wood are the last to leave Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell's wedding party at 3am as neighbours complain about the noise

One's an international supermodel, while the other is an ageing rocker.

But Kate Moss and Ronnie Wood made the perfect party pair as they joined a host of celebrities at Sir Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell's post-wedding celebration last night.

They were the last to leave the former Beatle's St John's Wood home in north London, dancing until 3am today.

The 69-year-old, now hitched for the third time, told one guest at his wedding reception: “She is perfection. I’m so happy.”

The former Beatle then made an emotional speech to the star-studded crowd who had gathered in the garden of his £5million home.

Guests, including former bandmate Ringo Starr and his Bond girl wife Barbara Bach, Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood and musician Jools Holland, cheered as he spoke lovingly of the US heiress, 51.

One guest said: “Paul was in such good spirits and looked very, very proud indeed. His love for Nancy clearly runs very deep indeed.”
