The Irish Independent reviews Bob Dylan's last concert in Dublin

By editorial board on November 8, 2022

Bob Dylan might be three miles north of purgatory but won’t be seeing Elvis soon.

The 81-year-old sings about his own mortality and then rolls back the clock in Dublin.  Dylan Plays a show at the age of 81 with songs predominantly about death from a bleak masterpiece, 2020’s Rough And Rowdy Ways, around which the show was mostly based. (read the full review HERE)

Bob Dylan covered Jerry Lee Lewis' "I Can't Seem to Say Goodbye" as the encore of his concert in England (Oct 30) on  paying tribute to the recently 'The Killer' death.

In the video, Dylan introduces the song by telling the audience, “I don’t know how many of you know, but Jerry Lee’s gone. We’re gonna play this song, one of his. Jerry Lee will live forever – we all know that.”

As you may know, these are the only images from Bob Dylan's UK tour, due the new tour is without smartphone. The legendary Nobel Prize has decided to follow Jack White's lead by asking viewers to lock their phones in a magnetic case.

Don Robertson wrote “I Can’t Seem to Say Goodbye,” and Lewis recorded it during his tenure with Sun Records. It wasn’t released until 1970, after the Sun catalog had changed hands and was being mined for material that could take advantage of artists’ current statuses. Lewis had reinvented himself as a country musician by the time "I Can’t Seem to Say Goodbye" became a Top 10 country hit.

There is a large white truck parked at the end of Argyll Street bearing the inscription, ‘Rock ‘N Roll Trucking’. To the queue outside the Palladium, it provides the first of many talking points tonight – later, these will be expanded to include the absence of Bob Britt, the shout out to Joe Strummer, the post-show patience of Jimmy Page as fans queue up for a handshake. “I saw you in 1975…”

But while the standards albums strategically avoided the piano in favour of guitar, bass, brushed snare drum and the occasional weep of steel guitar, tonight Dylan never took the guitar in his hand, playing only the keyboards (which he needs to lean on).

Unfortunately, due the severe restrictions on the use of smartphones, no videos are available yet.  Only one from Magdeburg

At the entrance to the concert, the phone is closed in a magnetic case and left in the possession of the owner who, however, can look at it if necessary only in a special area, first passing through the checkpoint to have the case unlocked.
