One person who is benefiting greatly from the success of the film is his ex-fiancée, Mary Austin, who people knew very little about before she was portrayed on the big screen by Lucy Boynton.
Not only does she currently live in Mercury's £20 million ($25.7m) West London mansion, but she's set to earn £40m ($51.4m) in royalties from the flick, which totalled a whopping £600m ($770m) in the box office and recently went on to bag a Golden Globe award. (SOURCE LADBIBLE:COM)
Prior to this, Austin kept out of the public eye - but to say that she played a major part in the singer's life would be an understatement. According to Biography, the pair met in the 70s when she was a 19-year-old art student before Mercury became famous.

The two lived together for several years and even got engaged before Mercury told Austin he was bisexual, to which she responded by claiming she thought he was gay. Despite the split, the pair remained very close friends for the rest of his life, until he tragically died of AIDS-related pneumonia in 1991.
In his will, the frontman left Austin half of his £75m estate, including the London property, as well as 50 percent of his future earnings. A further 25 percent went to his parents and 25 percent to his sister, showing just how close Mercury and Austin really were.
Austin's shares went up to 75 percent when the singer's parents died, and according to financial records, future earnings of Queen are split four ways between the Freddie Mercury estate and his three bandmates - guitarist Brian May, drummer Roger Taylor and bassist John Deacon.
This all means that Miss Austin receives around 19 percent of the earnings of the flick and any other royalties the band racks up in the meantime - which must be a fair amount considering the song the flick is named after has enjoyed a resurgence, having been downloaded 1.6 billion times across the globe.
For those who have not yet seen the film (we recommend you do), Bohemian Rhapsody follows the story of the epic band's rise to fame, quarrels, taking in Freddie's relationship with Austin, his AIDS diagnosis and Queen's iconic Live Aid performance in 1985.
To prepare for the role, Mr Robot star Malek reportedly watched Mercury's 1985 Live Aid performance over 1,500 times on YouTube to get the scene absolutely spot-on. Naturally, he totally nailed it, insuring every hand gesture, step, head movement and even the pursing of his lips matches up perfectly with Mercury's during the sequence.
That dude deserved the Golden Globe, hands down - it truly was a performance for the ages.
