An official scarf based on David Bowie’s iconic garment he wore for the introduction of festive TV classic The Snowman in 1984 has gone on sale.

Based on Raymond Briggs’ best-selling book of the same name, animated Christmas TV institution The Snowman initially premiered on Boxing Day 1982, and featured an intro from Briggs himself.

In 1984, music legend David Bowie, who was a huge fan of Briggs’ apocalyptic book When the Wind Blows (and later recorded the title track for the animation), was drafted in to record a new Snowman introduction.

Ahead of the festive season, notjust clothing have announced a Christmas collection featuring The World of The Snowman, created under license from Penguin Ventures (the licensing and consumer products team at Penguin Random House Children’s UK).

Leading the new collection is the most iconic and coveted garment associated with The Snowman. The scarf costing £19.99 is inspired by the same one worn by cultural icon David Bowie in his own attic during the filmed introduction to The Snowman.

Recently, Duncan Jones was rummaging through some old storage boxes when he came across a very festive surprise.  David Bowie’s son, Duncan, was surprise to discover the scarf his father wore in The Snowman while searching through storage boxes.(Mirror.co.uk)

Music icon David – who sadly passed away aged 69 in 2016 – featured in the iconic 1982 animation film The Snowman, appearing as a narrator at the beginning of the cartoon during a live action segment.

Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, David’s 49-year-old director son Duncan – known as Zowie Bowie when he was a child – revealed he had the joyous surprise of finding the scarf his father wore in the Snowman scene.

Sharing a selfie of himself with the scarf wrapped around him – and clutching a couple of sock puppets – Duncan described finding the vintage prop.

He wrote: “Went looking for sock monkeys in the storage boxes and FOUND THE SCARF!!! YAY!”

The update provoked an outpouring of nostalgia and emotion from fans, with many sharing their adoration for both The Snowman and David.

Among those responding was a man named Brian Harding who claimed to have worked on The Snowman and shared an anecdote about the scarf.
