The twelve-string acoustic guitar that had belonged to the musician, who passed away in 2006, comes from his grandson, Mark Barrett, with all proceeds split equally between the charity MIND and the Arthur Rank Hospice.
The guitar has a serial number of 1090448 and a date code for 21 October 1969. Little other information on the instrument has been made available, however it seems to be unmodified and in good condition.
The guitar, which has an estimate of £ 5,000 - £ 10,000, was mentioned by Syd Barrett in his famous 1971 Rolling Stone Magazine interview by Mick Rock, made at Barrett's mother's house, 183 Hills Road, Cambridge. The guitar is sold together with a copy of Rolling Stone Magazine.
"When my grandmother sold the Hills Road house in late 1974, Roger was not living there and some of his studio belongings, including a guitar, a record collection, a turntable and some spotlights were transported to his parents' house. around the corner on Hinton Avenue, to keep it safe.
Roger did not claim it and my father Alan his brother continued to keep it for three successive moves, giving it to me as a memento of the death of my uncle that I myself never knew because in the his last few years he didn't see anyone, "said Mark Barrett.
The guitar has a serial number 1090448 with a date code: October 21, 1969.
