Boygenius Tapped Into Pure, Raw Emotion During A Performance Of ‘Not Strong Enough’ On ‘Saturday Night Live’

Tonight (November 11), Boygenius took to the Saturday Night Live stage in what felt like highlights to a very exciting year for the band. In their first performance of the night, the ladies performed “Not Strong Enough” — a fan favorite from the record.

The trio of Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker and Lucy Dacus first graced the SNL stage clad in matching suits and ties — a nod to The Beatles, as well as their Rolling Stone magazine cover honoring Nirvana — to perform their catchy tune “Not Strong Enough.”

This weekend, boygenius members Phoebe Bridgers and Lucy Dacus went topless in an apparent display of solidarity with a women's rights movement.

Fans on Reddit pointed out that this was possibly an act of solidarity with Spanish performers who have been going topless to defend women's rights and in protest against censorship. boygenus didn't directly explain their decision to go topless.

Boygenius’ Phoebe Bridgers hits out at people online “screaming about their bodies” and people “actively using Twitter fucking embarrassing themselves”.
It comes after she received criticism for taking off her top during a festival.

The singer, songwriter and guitarist spoke out about the slew of nasty comments she and her bandmates receive online in a new interview with GQ, and stated that she finds it “fucking embarrassing” how people actually take to social media to make comments about their appearance.

Boygenius Members Respond to the Group’s Six Grammy Nominations: ‘It’s Triple the Joy’
The celebration will extend to the trio's 'SNL' appearance this weekend.

The three members of Boygenius are not having to stretch to figure out a time and a place to celebrate the six Grammy nominations that came in for the band Friday morning. They’re booked for “Saturday Night Live” this weekend — and, live from New York, they shared their thoughts via Zoom about the big love that has come their way from the Recording Academy, even as they rehearse for a key TV appearance.

Singer Eva Amaral this week created headlines by baring her chest at a festival, joining a string of other artists asserting this freedom in the name of defending women’s rights. Read the full article on The GuardianEva Amaral performing her song Revolución at the Sonorama festival.

In the middle of her performance at the Sonorama festival in the northern Spanish town of Aranda de Duero on Saturday, Eva Amaral was about to lead her band Amaral into her song Revolución when she took off her red sequin top and threw it on the floor.

For Boygenius, that creative dedication rests at the root of all the art they create, both individually and as a collective, or in this case, a super collective. “Lifting each other up [is] how we create,” Bridgers told Rolling Stone earlier this year. “We all get to be the lead. We all get the high of each other being in the front, which is so sick and has been the ethos of this band since day one.”

The trio have toured heavily throughout 2023, with Dacus and Baker making an extra surprise appearance on stage with Bridgers when the singer-songwriter joined Taylor Swift on a string of Eras Tour dates in May. Boygenius will return to the road in the months to come, headlining Madison Square Garden at the beginning of October and closing out their fall tour at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles on Halloween.
