Glastonbury talks with iconic headliner collapse throwing festival into chaos

Wonder, who previously headlined the festival in 2010, is in negotiations to top the bill on the final night of the annual event, which runs from 26 to 30 June, after negotiations with Madonna broke down over money.

It leaves a gaping hole in the line-up which has usually been announced by now, sparking concern from Glastonbury fans on Twitter.

Bosses then made a beeline for Fleetwood Mac legend Stevie Nicks, only for her to be poached by the BST festival in London’s Hyde Park.

It has previously been claimed Madonna, Coldplay and Dua Lipa would be headlining this year's festival, but talks with the 'Material Girl' hitmaker broke down after organisers Michael and Emily Eavis refused to pay the huge fee to bring her 'Celebration' live show to Worthy Farm in Somerset.

A source previously told the Mail on Sunday: "To be honest it's been a real blow not being able to nail down a deal with Madonna.

"Emily was so keen to have her play the legend slot. After she saw Madonna's tour in London in October she raved about her on Instagram, something she rarely does without Glastonbury in mind.

"But everyone knows that after last year, and the criticism over the gender balance, we've got to have big name females heading the line-up. Dua Lipa is a real catch. Now we need another.

Eavis put the claims to bed in an Instagram post on Sunday morning as she said the line-up is “still changing every day”.

She wrote: “As always, there is much speculation and excitement about who is playing at Glastonbury.“We are working on the line-up day and night at the moment, but it’s still changing every day.“The story about our confirmed headliners is untrue. “As always, we love your enthusiasm and guesswork – but accurate news on headliners will be with you sometime in the new year!”

Madonna, Coldplay, Dua Lipa  are not confirmed to headline next edition of Glastonbury festival. According to insiders, the British pop sensation, 28, is currently unsure about her decision, but is carefully considering the offers.

Should Dua choose to perform on the famous Pyramid Stage at Glasto's Worthy Farm, it would be her first appearance in seven years, with her last performance taking place on the smaller John Peel Stage.

Coldplay have previously headlined the festival in 2002, 2005, 2011, and 2016, while it will be Dua's first appearance as a headline act and Madonna's first ever performance at the iconic event, which takes place on Worthy Farm, Somerset.

The news comes a few weeks after organiser Emily Eavis hinted Madonna could be set to top the bill.

Meanwhile, Coldplay are very family with the festival, having headlined four times before in 2002, 2005, 2011 and 2016.

Speaking about next year’s festival last month, organiser Emily Eavis, daughter of Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis, revealed that a legendary US star’s team got in touch to confirm they were available.

As described in a new profile published in The New York Times Style Magazine, Lipa’s third studio album, due out in 2024, will be “informed” by “1970s-era psychedelia” as opposed to the house and disco instrumentals that powered hits from Future Nostalgia like “Don’t Start Now” and “Physical, Americansongwriter reports.

Parker has been rumored to be one of the musicians in the small group of songwriting collaborators working on the upcoming record.

According to The Times, Lipa “all but confirm[ed]” the rumor when she said, “I don’t know what you’re talking about” in response to a question about it and laughed a little while looking away. It’s worth noting, however, that Lipa isn’t going full psych-rock. Her next album will remain pop because she doesn’t want to “alienate” fans and cause them to “have a meltdown.”
