Metallica‘s Lars Ulrich and Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ Chad Smith are reportedly set to appear in the upcoming This Is Spinal Tap sequel.
According to a report from Deadline Hollywood, the two veteran drummers will cameo in the upcoming film, though details surrounding their roles are currently unknown. It is expected that Ulrich and Smith will both be playing short-lived drummers for the fictitious Spinal Tap band.
Elton John will appear alongside Paul McCartney and Garth Brooks in the follow up to the 1984 movie This Is Spinal Tap which follows a fictional heavy metal group
The original film followed the fictional heavy metal group Spinal Tap – dubbed “one of England’s loudest bands”. Now director Rob Reiner who made the first movie says he is making a sequel featuring a host of stars.
Reiner said: “We’re making a sequel. We’re going to start shooting at the end of February. “Everybody is back, Paul McCartney is joining and Elton John, and a few other surprises, Garth Brooks.” Discussing the success of the first film, he said: “The only thing that matters is getting people that are good at improvising.”
For years, Reiner has been asked about making a sequel to This Is Spinal Tap, but he and the others have always resisted. He added: “It was only because we started to talk to each other and we came up with an idea we think might work. The bar is incredibly high." (Dailystar)
“This Is Spinal Tap,” which was selected for preservation by the National Film Registry and deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant” by the Library of Congress, was primarily improvised. The key to making a movie with only a loose script? “The only thing that matters is that you get people who are good at improvising,” Reiner said. “You have to get people who feel comfortable doing that … then you’re off to the races.”
