Dolly Parton Turns Down Tea With Kate Middleton

The country music legend said the tea date was all set up, but she had to turn the royal family down ‘She Wasn’t Going to Promote My Rock Album’

During an appearance on BBC Radio 2, the country superstar revealed that she declined the invitation while on a recent work trip in London.

"This time, Lordy, I even got invited to have tea with Kate but I couldn't even go," the 77-year-old told presenter and host Claudia Winkleman.

"I thought it was very sweet and nice of her to invite me and one of these days I'm going to get to do that - that would be great," the singer continued.

Dolly joked that she declined the prestigious invite because the Princess of Wales would not promote her new album.

"But she wasn't going to promote my rock album so I had to say no," the Here You Come Again hitmaker quipped.

Dolly told Claudia that often does not have enough time to see the city while in London for work.

Sir Paul McCartney says he “loves” Dolly Parton’s version of his song Let It Be, which he recorded with her for her upcoming rock album.

The British megastar thanked Parton for including the track on the album, titled Rockstar, and he was pleased to have been “by her side” for the recording, Belfasttelegraph reports.

Does it get any better than singing ‘Let It Be’ with @PaulMcCartney who wrote the song? Not only that, he played piano!” she later wrote on Twitter.

“Well, it did get even better when @ringostarrmusic joined in on drums, @peterframpton on guitar and @MickFleetwood playing percussion.

“I mean, seriously, how much better does it get? Thanks guys!”

Replying to the post, Sir Paul wrote: “Thanks Dolly for doing my song.

Rockstar is the US country star’s first rock album and is due for release in November.

“I love your version and am very pleased to be by your side on this one. Rock on! Love Paul x.”

Fans can access an exclusive preview clip of the cover by signing up to Parton’s official newsletter.

‘I would never retire! I would hopefully drop dead in the middle of a song on stage someday - and hopefully one I’ve written - but that’s how I hope to go. I don’t have much of a choice in that but in the meantime, I’m going to make hay while the sun shines.’

‘I’m not touring anymore but I will continue to do special shows here and there now and then like a long weekend or festival shows. But as far as touring I think those days are pretty much behind me... you have to stay gone so long on a tour to make it productive and prosperous and that’s a lot of time at my age – I aint’ got no years to waste!’

Dolly Parton has shared a new song with Judas Priest‘s Rob Halford and Mötley Crüe‘s Nikki Sixx – listen to ‘Bygones’ below. Rockstar will be available as a 4xLP or 2xCD set, as well as digitally.

The track is the latest preview of the country legend’s forthcoming rock album ‘Rockstar’, which is set for release later this year.

‘Magic Man’ has also been shared this week alongside the release of ‘Bygones’. It’s a duet between Parton and Heart singer Ann Wilson and is dedicated to Parton’s husband Carl.

"World on Fire" is one of the few songs on the 30-track, star-studded Rockstar not to feature a rock 'n' roll collaborator. Parton wrote the song herself and takes stock of the anger, fear and discontent throughout the world.
