Mötley Crüe record 'super heavy' new music with new guitarist John 5

Mötley Crüe have been recording brand new music with Mick Mars' replacement John 5.

The former Rob Zombie guitarist has taken over from the original member after Mick filed a lawsuit against the glam metal group - also comprising Vince Neil, Nikki Sixx and Tommy Lee - for allegedly trying to force him out after he had to step back from touring due to longstanding health issues that have worsened.

And John has revealed they've been working with the famed rock producer, Bob Rock, who produced their 1994 self-titled record and 1989's 'Dr. Feelgood', on some "super heavy" material.

Mötley Crüe have announced that guitarist Mick Mars will no longer tour with the band, citing his degenerative disease as the reason.

The announcement came in the form of a statement to Variety, where the band confirmed that Mars will step down in a touring capacity – although, they noted, he will remain an official member of the group for both in-studio and legal purposes.

“Due to his ongoing painful struggle with Ankylosing Spondylitis (A.S.), he will no longer be able to tour with the band,” the statement read. “Mick will continue as a member of the band, but can no longer handle the rigors of the road. A.S. is an extremely painful and crippling degenerative disease, which affects the spine.”

Last week Motley Crue and Def Leppard have announced a joint UK and Ireland tour for summer 2023.

Motley Crue said in a statement: "We had an incredible time playing ‘The Stadium Tour’ in North America this summer and we truly can’t wait to take the show around the globe with 'The World Tour' in 2023.

"Crueheads in Latin America and Europe: Get ready! We’re coming for you next and can’t wait to finally see all of you out there again next year!"

Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott said: "After finally getting back on the road and having a monumental summer tour in the US and Canada this year, we’re beyond thrilled to be bringing this massive stadium tour to major cities all over the world, and kicking off Europe in Sheffield where it all started for us 45 years ago.

"We’re looking to forward to seeing you out there, somewhere soon!"

The two bands are also heading to Latin America in February and March, which will see them head to Mexico's Mexico City and Monterrey as well as Colombian capital Bogota.

Motley Crue drummer Tommy Lee was forced to abandon his stool behind the drumkit just five songs into the band’s opening set of their current US tour.

The charismatic drummer recently broke several ribs, and so he allegedly took to the stage with concerns over his ability to play the full set without further aggravating the injury.

In anticipation, the band has a standby drummer at the ready to take the reins if required.
