Video: Marc Bolan documentary ‘Angel Headed Hipster’ arrives in UK cinemas later this month

Directed and written by Ethan Silverman, the film is described as an “exuberant and thoughtful celebration” of the glam rock pioneer in the official press release, featuring archival performances.

The documentary also features interviews and performances from artists such as U2, Billy Idol, Joan Jett, Ringo Starr, Nick Cave, Elton John, David Bowie, and Bolan’s last partner, musician Gloria Jones, as NME reports.

In the clip  Bolan is seen rehearsing the track ‘The Children Of Rarn’, pulled from T. Rex’s 1970 self-titled album. He later talks about the impact of musicians Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix in archival interview footage.

Both the 4CD & 5LP sets feature a brand new essay along with many previously unpublished photos taken by Keith Morris, as well as ephemera from the era.

Demon Records will also reissue T. Rex’s 1973 singles as 1000-only limited edition 7” picture discs featuring photos from the Keith Morris archive, beginning with “20th Century Boy”.

 

Whatever Happened To The Teenage Dream? is released on May 26 by Demon. The 4CD and 5LP sets include the Tanx and Zinc Alloy albums, along with the non-album hit singles & B-sides, including “Children Of The Revolution”, “Solid Gold Easy Action”, “20th Century Boy” and “The Groover” as well demos and outtakes from both albums. The sets also focus on Bolan’s initial forays into soul music and highlights from the unfinished album he wrote and produced for the American singer ‘Sister’ Pat Hall. There is also a single album anthology entitled Songwriter: 1973.

The complete videos of two concerts that Marc Bolan's T. Rex held at the Empire Pool Wembley - now renamed SSE Arena - on March 18, 1972 have been made available in free streaming on YouTube: the audio video footage in high quality they refer to the shows held on the same day first at 5.30pm and then at 8.30pm at the facility, whose capacity at the time was set at about 10 thousand units, created as a swimming pool for the 1934 Olympic Games.
