Faithfull moved to London as a teenager in 1964 and quickly met Stones manager Andrew Loog Oldham. By the end of the year, she had released her debut single ‘As Tears Go By’, a song written by Jagger, Richards and Oldham, and secured a UK Top Ten single at the age of 17.

She went on to marry the artist John Dunbar in 1965 but left him for Jagger the following year. Her time with the frontman coincided with a period when she became addicted to cocaine, and in 1968 she gave birth to a stillborn daughter while returning from Jagger’s country house in Ireland.

After splitting from Jagger, she continued to struggle with drug abuse and went through an artistically fallow period, eventually recovering with the critically acclaimed 1979 album ‘Broken English’.

"I STILL CAN'T FIND YOUR SOCKS"

When Keith Richards reunited with Marianne Faithfull years later

Decades after they had a fling behind Mick Jagger’s back, Keith Richards and Marianne Faithfull clinked glasses as The Rolling Stones tour Paris.

Keith, bedded Mick’s then girlfriend Marianne in revenge for Mick, 74, stealing his girlfriend, the late Anita Pallenberg. The pair had a one night stand in the 1960s, which ended abruptly when Keith fled out through a window clutching his clothes as Mick approached.

It was 'not the first time that we'd been in competition for a bird', Richards wrote in his 2010 autobiography, Life, adding: 'It was like two alphas fighting. Still is, quite honestly.'

His revenge in bedding Marianne — which he says happened only once — was interrupted when Jagger returned home early.

Their 'hot and sweaty' episode was cut short as Richards 'did one out the window' clutching his clothes, although he accidentally left his socks behind. He revealed: 'Marianne and I still have this joke. She sends me messages: 'I still can't find your socks.'
