While the other Beatles were planning moves to the stockbroker belt in England’s Home Counties, Paul McCartney decided to remain in the capital city. On 13 April 1965 he bought a house at 7 Cavendish Avenue in St John’s Wood, London.

The three-storey Regency townhouse was purchased from a physician named Desmond O’Neill for £40,000. A short walk to EMI Studios on Abbey Road, it often functioned as a base for the group for meetings before or after they were recording.

McCartney moved in in March 1966, after he had made renovations and installed a sizeable gate and intercom system to ensure his privacy. The location was swiftly discovered by Beatles fans, however, several of whom kept a vigil at all hours and on occasion found their way inside.

His beloved London home was raided by thieves days before his homecoming gig in Liverpool, England.
Police officers were called to the Beatles rocker's property in leafy St John's Wood on Friday evening (07 Dec 18) after a report of a break-in, a Metropolitan Police spokesperson tells WENN. It is not clear if Paul or his wife Nancy Shevell were at home at the time of the incident.

The Beatles icon’s home in St John’s Wood was targeted at approximately 6.20PM on Friday December 7.

Paul's security scare came almost exactly 38 years to the day since his bandmate John Lennon was murdered outside his home in New York's The Dakota apartment building. John passed away on 8 December 1980 after he was shot four times in the chest.

"Officers attended and identified signs of forced entry to the premises," the Met official explains. "No arrest has been made. Enquiries continue."

Detailing the incident, a neighbour told Britain's Daily Mail newspaper: "There were blue flashing lights and police everywhere - four or five cars. All the lights were on in the house. The police were all over it."

Paul McCartney got over a break-in at his home by joining music’s biggest names at Mick Jagger’s Christmas party.

The ex-Beatle, accompanied by wife Nancy Shevell, arrived in a large coat designed by his daughter Stella’s fashion label.

It is not the first time a member of the iconic Liverpool band has been the victim of a burglary; the late George Harrison was stabbed several times by a knife-wielding intruder during a break-in at his Oxfordshire, England mansion in 1999. George passed away in 2001 after a battle with cancer.

McCartney has previously expressed concern over his security at the St John's Wood pad - and reportedly had his home removed from Google Street View .
