The Moody Blues founding member Mike Pinder has passed away aged 82, his family have confirmed.

Outside of the Moody Blues, Pinder notably made guest appearances on two tracks that feature on John Lennon’s album, Imagine. He also embarked on a solo career, releasing two albums in 1976 and 1994, respectively.

In a statement, Pinder’s family said of his passing: “Michael Thomas Pinder died on Wednesday, April 24th, 2024 at his home in Northern California, surrounded by his devoted family. Michael’s family would like to share with his trusted friends and caring fans that he passed peacefully. His final days were filled with music, encircled by the love of his family. Michael lived his life with a childlike wonder, walking a deeply introspective path which fused the mind and the heart.”

Another member of the band, Graeme Edge, drummer, has died, aged 80,  on Nov 2021 .

"When Graeme told me he was retiring, I knew that without him it couldn’t be the Moody Blues anymore. And that’s what happened. It’s true to say that he kept the group together throughout all the years, because he loved it.

"In the late 1960’s we became the group that Graeme always wanted it to be, and he was called upon to be a poet as well as a drummer. He delivered that beautifully and brilliantly, while creating an atmosphere and setting that the music would never have achieved without his words. I asked Jeremy Irons to recreate them for our last tours together and it was absolutely magical.
