The 26-year-old actress – also known for her appearances in Euphoria and The White Lotus – said she enjoyed shooting the promo for the Hackney Diamonds track, even though many online comments suggested it was anti-feminist.
“I felt hot,” Sweeney told the U.K.’s Glamour magazine in a recent interview. “I picked my own outfit out of racks and racks of clothes. I felt so good in it.” She continued: “One of the questions I get is, ‘Are you a feminist?’ I find empowerment through embracing the body that I have. That’s sexy and strong, and I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. I’m in a Rolling Stones video. How cool and iconic is that?”
“All the moves, everything I was doing was all freestyle. I mean, who else gets to roll around on the top of a convertible driving down Sunset Boulevard with police escorts? It’s the cool things in this career that I had no idea I’d get to do.”
Crucially, all the characters had some degree of “layers”, a requirement sadly not obligatory in roles for women, even in 2023. Since becoming the darling of HBO, Sweeney has turned her attention to other ventures: film, fashion and, now, rather unexpectedly, a Rolling Stones music video. (E.S.)
Sydney Sweeney has opened up about facing body-image issues in the past.
In an interview with Glamour UK, published Thursday, Sweeney, 26, confessed, “Flaunt what you got. Own it. Love them. When I was in high school, I used to feel uncomfortable about how big my boobs were and I used to say that when I turned 18, I was going to get a boob job to make them smaller.”
Her mom intervened and prevented that from happening, she revealed.“My mom told me, ‘Don’t do it. You’ll regret it in college,’ ” Sweeney said. “And I’m so glad I didn’t. I like them. They’re my best friends
The iconic English rock band is back with a brand-new track, Angry, as part of their upcoming album Hackney Diamonds, the group’s first studio album since 2005. In the music video, 25-year-old Sweeney appears as a leather-clad good-girl-gone-bad (the girl next door can’t come to the phone right now, she’s dead), who chants along to the music as she passes nostalgic billboards displaying iconic moments from the Stones’ past. It’s giving Alicia Silverstone and Aerosmith vibes.
Sweeney initially broke through after landing supporting roles in a handful of revered TV shows, such as The Handmaid’s Tale and Sharp Objects, alongside heavyweights like Elizabeth Moss and Amy Adams.
She also portrayed a lead character, Emaline, in Netflix’s 2018 teen comedy series Everything Sucks!, which meant more screentime and an opportunity to flex her acting muscles as a dramatic diva teenager.
It clearly struck a chord: Sweeney’s big breaks, in HBO’s Euphoria and The White Lotus, which debuted within two years of each other, both involved her playing a difficult, flawed Gen Z teen.
Her history has passed through great television and cinema successes, from the TV series Euphoria to the most rock'n'roll director ever, Quentin Tarantino.
Sydney Sweeney began her acting career at the age of ten, when her mother took her to a casting in her home state of Washington. Since that time the actress has appeared in episodes of major television series such as Heroes, Criminal Minds, Chase, 90210 and Kickin'it. The young woman was also seen in the television film The Bling Ring, and in the films The Ward, directed by John Carpenter, Spiders 3D and Jesus in Cowboy Boots.
Sydney Sweeney was born on September 12, 1997 in Spokane, a town in the state of Washington 500 kilometers from Seattle. In his career, which began in 2009 in the film ZMD: Zombies of Mass Destruction by Kevin Hamedani and in the TV series Heroes, he has lent his face and voice to various film, television, musical and animation productions. The role that brought her to the spotlight is undoubtedly that of Cassie Howard in the acclaimed TV series Euphoria alongside the actress and model Zendaya.
But also in the world of cinema she has played some characters in major films of the latest cinematographic seasons starting with Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood in 2019. In the film by the Pulp Fiction director Sydney she plays a young member of the Manson Family who lives on the Spahn ranch.
A few years later, in 2021, he starred in the films The Voyeurs by director Michael Mohan and Night Teeth by Adam Randall.
