Liam Gallagher says Noel turned down an Oasis 'Definitely Maybe' 30th anniversary tour

Liam Gallagher will be doing a UK tour later this year celebrating the 30th anniversary of Oasis’ debut album, Definitely Maybe, but in an interview in the new issue of Mojo (via Stereogum), he claims the tour came about after brother Noel turned down an offer for the Britpop icons to reform and do the tour.

“Noel? He ain’t fucking doing it… I did call him! Well, my people called Noel’s management team,” Liam told Mojo. “We put an offer on the table for an Oasis thing — because we got offered it — and he said no. It was a big tour, a lot of money. He turned it down. I get it; he’s got a divorce going down. I’ll do the Definitely Maybe thing and have a nice time without him.”

Noel Gallagher has shared two new versions of classic Oasis tracks ‘Going Nowhere’ and ‘The Masterplan. The re-recorded versions of the Oasis tracks were made by Gallagher at Abbey Road Studios in London, and came ahead of the 25th anniversary of the band’s famous B-side album ‘The Masterplan’.

Noel also said he was still learning about the impact of his anthems on audiences, adding: “I wouldn’t still be doing it after 30 years if I didn’t love it.

“You tend to find out more about the songs when you play them live than when you're just listening to them at home. It’s a special thing.

Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds share new single - 'We're Gonna Get there In The End'.

“I wrote this in one night during the pandemic. I wrote it and put the demo out,” said Noel. “I wanted something positive and uplifting – just a real, uplifting tune. As an artist, the time during lockdown gave you something to focus on. But it didn’t make that time any easier.”

Late in April Noel Gallagher has shared the title track from his new album ‘Council Skies’ – you can listen to it below.
Speaking to Sky News at the premiere of the forthcoming Bowie film Moonage Daydream, the High Flying Birds musician said that the late icon has “one of the most interesting stories in all of music”.

The new video, directed by long-time High Flying Birds collaborators Dan Cadan and Jonathan Mowatt, blends the stunning landscape of a city with the beauty of bright lights illuminating an intimate dance floor. The video also shows the band performing inside the historic New Century Hall in Manchester, which has hosted music legends including The Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix.

“I didn’t really know him that well. I was first aware of him in the ’80s, doing ‘Let’s Dance’ and all that, and then going back, when I was getting more into music, going back in time.  Gallagher revealed that he’d impersonated Bowie while working on tracks for his next full-length record. He also mentioned an upcoming song that’d been influenced by the legendary artist, ‘Pretty Boy’.

“I got an email pinged through on my iPad. It just said, ‘Thanks for the shoutout last night. Keep writing, love David’. “And I was thinking, ‘David? Who’s David? I don’t know anybody called David’. And then it slowly dawned on me, so I emailed back straight away, ‘Oh, no problem mate…’. And then he emailed back straight away, and I was like, ‘Am I in a conversation with David Bowie?’.”

“Turns out it was in fact David Bowie, and he was like ‘Oh, keep writing’, and I was like, ‘Start gigging’. He was a dude. A bit too tall for my liking, but still, a bit of a dude.” (NME)
