Fab Four’s 1967 masterpiece places atop Official Charts Company’s list of U.K.’s most popular albums, edging LPs by Adele and Oasis

Paul Weller is on top of the UK Vinyl Singles Chart with In Another Room.

The title-track from his recent limited edition EP leads singles from Prince, Morrissey, Jon Hopkins and David Bowie, while Pet Shop Boys and Gerry Cinnamon both have two songs apiece inside the Top 20.

Aiming to acknowledge the last decade’s surge in vinyl sales, the Official Charts Company started dedicated vinyl album and singles charts in 2016, compiling this one from sales of 7″ and 12″ records.

Over a half-century after its release, the Beatles‘ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band has been named the most popular British album of all time. The Official Charts Company, which has tracked album sales in the U.K. since 1969, proclaimed the Fab Four’s 1967 masterpiece as Britain’s favorite album, using a metric based on album sales, downloads and streams.

By Rob Copsey – The ground-breaking 1967 LP strides home with 5.34 million combined sales at the top of the all-time Official Studio Albums Chart, which has been compiled by the Official Charts Company to mark today’s National Album Day celebrations.

The confirmation further cements the position of Sir Paul McCartney as the most successful albums artist in UK chart history, racking up 22 Number 1 albums across his illustrious career (15 with The Beatles, 2 with Wings, 4 solo and 1 with Linda McCartney).

The honour will be confirmed this on Saturday, October 13 when the brand new chart will be counted down during a special National Album Day edition of Pick Of The Pops hosted by Paul Gambaccini will be broadcast by BBC Radio 2 from 1-3pm. The full Top 40 is posted below.
