Roger Waters: Trump’s rise is ‘just as dangerous’ as Hitler in the ’30s

Roger Waters has once again taken aim at Donald Trump, suggesting the Republican presidential candidate is “just as dangerous” as Adolf Hitler.

The Pink Floyd legend, who used his recent Desert Trip set to brand Trump an “arrogant, lying, racist, sexist pig“, shared his forthright views in an episode of the WTF with Marc Maron podcast.“It’s a short step to all out-total fascism, a complete police state. It’s always insidious when it creeps up. It was insidious in Germany in the ’30s. National Trumpism feels a bit less insidious, but it’s just as dangerous,” Waters told Maron.

“The method for taking over the state and for it becoming a totalitarian police state, it’s always the same – it’s always the identification of the other as the enemy,” Waters continued. “In Trump’s case, it’s the Chinese, the Mexicans and Islam. With Hitler, it was the Jews, the Communists, the Gypsies [as well as] anyone who had a physical deformity [and] homosexuals.”

Trump is preying on a population that “feels defeated”, Waters argued, as “everyone’s standard of living is falling” and “the Bill of Rights are slowly being taken away from you”.

Fellow rock star Bruce Springsteen also spoke out against Trump again over the weekend, branding him “a mess” and “an embarrassment” to his country.

Meanwhile, Trump has hit out at Saturday Night Live and Alec Baldwin’s impersonation of him. He has also been met with accusations of making racist comments towards rapper Lil Jon while they worked together on The Celebrity Apprentice.Read more at http://www.nme.com/news/1810028-1810028#XMQrGdrJ6QwCaEPs.99
