Mel B 'honoured' to feature on stamps for Spice Girls 30th anniversary

Collections featuring images from 1997 Brit awards are postal service’s first dedicated to an all-female pop group

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday, the former Spice Girls singer discussed the stamps, which are being issued by Royal Mail in the U.K. to mark the girl group's milestone anniversary.

"It is 30 years and I just realise this because we just released our stamps from the Royal Mail," Mel, formerly known as Scary Spice, told the talk show host. "Usually it's the queen's face that's on the stamp. It went from the queen to the king and then the Spice Girls have their own stamps."

The Spice Girls have been honoured with a set of Royal Mail stamps to mark the 30th anniversary of the British band’s formation – the first time the postal service has dedicated an entire stamp collection to a female pop group,according to The Guardian.

The 10 main stamps feature performance images from the 1997 Brit awards – including Geri Horner’s union jack dress, fashioned from a tea towel – as well as various headlining shows and their reunion for the closing ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics.

A further collection features portraits taken on the set of the 1997 film Spice World.

On January 11, 2022 Royal Mail Releases The Rolling Stones Stamps. The legendary band becomes the fourth group to don the honor.

In being featured in this new collection, The Rolling Stones become only the fourth group to be honoured by Royal Mail with a dedicated stamp issue – the first three being The Beatles in 2007, Pink Floyd in 2016 and Queen in 2020.

John Lennon  was ommemorated on U.S. Postage Stamps on Jan.stamps 2019. The U.S. postage stamp commemorating John Lennon‘s legacy was unveiled at a Friday ceremony at New York’s Central Park, with the late Beatles legend’s widow Yoko Ono and son Sean Lennon in attendance.

“I know that my father would have been really thrilled to be accepted, officially in this way, on a stamp,” Sean Lennon said at the event. “About as official as it gets, I think.”

 

On January 25, 2017 David Bowie was honoured with a set of 10 Royal Mail tribute stamps. Six of the stamps will feature images of Bowie album covers.

The remaining four stamps will feature images of Bowie performing live on different tours: 1972’s The Ziggy Stardust Tour, 1978’s The Stage Tour, 1983’s The Serious Moonlight Tour and 2004’s A Reality Tour.

Sir Paul McCartney instead was honoured with Royal Mail stamp collection on May 6, 2021
The Royal Mail than unveiled a set of 12 special stamps honouring Sir Paul McCartney.

"The Royal Mail’s Head of Public Affairs, David Gold, said: “Paul McCartney remains a vital figure at the centre of rock and pop. An artist whose legacy is immense, but whose work continues to generate popular attention and critical acclaim."

The collection features eight album covers which have defined his career, along with photos of Sir Paul in the recording studio.
