Bruce Springsteen-signed ‘50s Fender Telecaster sold for $72,600. at Charity Auction

By editorial board on December 13, 2021

Bruce Springsteen owned & signed this 1952 Fender Reissue Telecaster guitar. Bruce wrote, “Best, Bruce Springsteen” in black felt tip pen while adding his signature guitar drawing. Bruce

Bruce owns a lot of these instruments because when he plays in concerts, he only uses reissues of his famous guitar, never the original. They do this by aging the guitars to look identical to the original. This is an example of one that hasn't been aged yet. Bruce can be seen holding a very similar guitar in concert. A very rare piece of Bruce history. Comes with the original case, a James Spence Authentication (JSA) Letter of Authenticity and a Gotta Have Rock and Roll Certificate of Authenticity.

New covers and themes emerge in 33-song Nassau 1980 Night 1
After a month off to clear the runway for The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts, Bruce Springsteen's Live Archive series is back in action today. Presenting a first-leg River tour performance, roughly a year after those MUSE (Musicians United for Safe Energy) concerts in '79, today's release tells the next part of the story. (Backstreet)

December 28, 1980 completes the Nassau 1980 trifecta, joining the previously released December 29 and New Year’s Eve shows collectively regarded as one of the greatest stands in Springsteen concert history.

Opening night at Nassau features the debut performances of “Merry Christmas Baby” and “This Land Is Your Land”; 13 tracks from The River including “Hungry Heart” featuring Flo and Eddie; plus outstanding performances of “Darkness On The Edge Of Town,” “Who’ll Stop The Rain,” “Prove It All Night,” “Badlands,” “For You,” “Fire,” “Backstreets” and “Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town.”

The first time audiences heard that voice speaking out was when Springsteen added a Woody Guthrie song to the set in late 1980. It may be just an inkling of a growing consciousness, but Bruce's first performance of "This Land Is Your Land" is a real inflection point on his way to becoming the socially and politically conscious artist that we've known for decades. That premiere — which would become a staple of the River set in 1981 — is a key track on today's new entry in the Live Archive series, Nassau Coliseum, December 28, 1980.

More songs from The River feature prominently, of course. As Bruce sings during "Rosalita" this night: "Because my brand new record, Rosie, went all the way to number one, one, one, one!"New material includes a potent, this-is-a-dark-ride trio of "Stolen Car," "Wreck on the Highway," and "Point Blank," followed immediately by another River trio of antidotes: "The Ties That Bind," "Ramrod," and a breakneck-speed "You Can Look (But You Better Not Touch)." Stevie Van Zandt, in his element, particularly shines here (we'd be remiss if we didn't applaud his background vocals throughout).
