Drake has bought Tupac’s ring at auction for $1million

It was put up for auction by Sotheby’s as part of a sale relating to the 50th anniversary of the birth of hip-hop, and was expected to fetch around $200,000.

The ring was designed by Tupac himself and worn to his last public performance at the MTV Video Music Awards in September 1996.

Sotheby's has sold for over a million dollars a crown ring specifically commissioned by the rapper and worn by him in the last public appearance before being killed.

The ring, put up for sale by Yaasmyn Fula, the artist's godmother, made its appearance during an auction in New York dedicated to the world of hip-hop.

 

 

Tupac had commissioned the gold, ruby ​​and diamond jewel in 1996 and wore it to the MTV awards that same year. Inside, the inscribed "Pac & Dada 1996" referenced Shakur's recent fairytale engagement to actress and model Kidada Jones, the daughter of record impresario Quincy Jones.

The price paid, according to Sotheby's, represents a record for an object linked to hip-hop and the only one to have exceeded one million dollars.

The auction which included other Tupac memorabilia including an unopened copy of an album with cover art designed by Jean-Michel Basquiat, six signed letters from Tupac and the original demo tape for the single Trapped. Real name Lesane Parish Crooks but renamed Tupac Amaru at the age of one in honor of the indigenous revolutionary of the eighteenth century, Tupac died at the age of 25 on September 13, 1996 after 6 days of agony following a shooting in Las Vegas.
