A world tour could net them £300million, industry insiders estimate. Guitarist and founder Pete Townshend, who famously did not like touring, has found a new enjoyment of being on stage – and doesn’t want his concert life to end.
The 78-year-old has confirmed he is meeting lead singer Roger Daltrey to discuss plans for 2024, the Express repors.
Roger, 80 in March, has reflected on the tough nature of live work as he ages, both on his voice and body.
Townshend also remarked, “I don’t get much of a buzz from performing with The Who. If I’m really honest, I’ve been touring for the money.”
Then, while being interviewed for an episode of the Sound Up! podcast that premiered on April 16, 2024, Townshend said with regard to his comments to The New York Times, “I’m not doing a farewell tour. I think I was being sarcastic about it.”
When Daltrey was asked to respond to Townshend’s recent statements, he told the Miami Herald, “If Pete doesn’t want to tour, I don’t want to be back with The Who on the road, at 81, with someone who doesn’t want be there … if that’s what he’s saying.”
But industry insiders say “a 60th anniversary tour would be a milestone moment to celebrate one of the most influential and greatest UK bands of all time”.

Daltrey recently announced that 2024 would be his final year as curator of Teenage Cancer Trust after 24 trailblazing years.
Daltrey, the 80-year-old rock singer does not intend to quit any time soon, and said he would only stop if he felt he was cheating fans.
As matter of fact, on May 9, Daltrey Previews 2024 Tour With Early Concert in San Diego. and will be touring to the States on a special solo tour this May and June, presenting a mostly acoustic set of Who gems, rarities, solo nuggets and other surprises.
The show opened with a trio of Townshend tunes: “After The Fire,” “Getting in Tune” and “I Can See For Miles.” The first was released in 1985 on a Daltrey solo album and was seen by many as Townshend’s farewell to the height of The Who’s prowess.
