The Beatles’ ‘Yellow Submarine’ Gets Limited Edition Vinyl Picture Disc

By editorial board on May 25, 2018

The Beatles’ ‘Yellow Submarine’ will be released as a limited edition, 7” vinyl single picture disc on 6 July. As well with themed turntable: Yellow Submarine

It marks the 50th anniversary of the release of the celebrated animated film inspired by the John Lennon-Paul McCartney composition.https://cdnrockol-rockolcomsrl.netdna-ssl.com/S05EUNCOL03WoDyHXZQASHJN-i0=/700x0/smart/https%3A%2F%2Fdvfnvgxhycwzf.cloudfront.net%2Fmedia%2FSharedImage%2FimageFull%2F.fUhbi9KW%2FSharedImage-80775.jpg%3Ft%3Df20516740e22fdbcca7b

As reported by uDiscover, a digitally-remastered version of the film is returning to cinemas for the first time since 1999. Event-style 50th anniversary screenings will take place in July, with the film restored in 4K digital resolution by Paul Rutan Jr. and the team at Triage Motion Picture Services and Eque Inc. The film score has been remixed in 5.1 stereo surround sound at Abbey Road Studios by Peter Cobbin.

The vinyl picture disc will be housed in a card sleeve with a die-cut hole on the front to show the disc. The single will feature its fellow Revolver track ‘Eleanor Rigby’ on the flip side, just as the original Beatles single did when it first appeared in August 1966.

Pro-Ject’s latest Beatles-themed turntable: Yellow Submarine

The Yellow Submarine is a belt-driven, and indeed yellow-coloured and submarine-shaped, turntable that follows in the steps of the 1964, George Harrison and two Sgt Pepper decks to celebrate an era or occasion of the British band. And we don’t have to tell you which album is being commemorated here.

It ties in with this year’s release of Yellow Submarine in a 4K restoration to mark the film’s 50th anniversary.

Ortofon has created a yellow Concorde cartridge, called Sonar, especially for the vessel design. It’s attached to an S-shaped aluminium tonearm (which was recently introduced to Pro-Ject’s Debut line) mounted on a MDF chassis sitting on decoupled feet. There’s also a glass platter and 33/45rpm manual speed change.

While we are awaiting details on availability, we do know that the Pro-Ject Yellow Submarine is priced £389, with a dust cover an optional.
