BEATLES- WHITE ALBUM PT1- PAUL MCCARTNEY, THE LATE GEORGE HARRISON

At the time of its November 22, 1968 release officially named simply The Beatles, it was their first double album and the first following the sudden death of their manager

Redbeard shared this synopsis for the episode that features classic interview with Paul McCartney and the late George Harrison: How can an album accomplish so much by embedding itself indelibly in popular culture, continuing to influence generations more than a half century after release, while on the surface revealing so little about its contents and its creators?

THE UNTOLD STORY OF MIXING THE LP

As in the past, the stereo mixes for The White Album tended to be put off until the last minute again even though they were now deemed to be important. The reason for the importance was not what one might expect though. Paul explained to me whilst mixing the stereo version of “Helter Skelter” that it had to sound different from the mono version. Apparently fans started to buy both the mono and stereo albums and wrote to them asking if they knew there were differences between the versions, so Paul and/or the band saw this as a great way to boost sales. George Martin was “frozen out” by the band while they were making the White Album in 1968, a new biography claims. Source the guardian.

Its author, Kenneth Womack, said that a “cold war” between Martin and the band led to him turning up to those recording sessions with “a large stack of newspapers and a giant bar of chocolate” – only to sit at the back of the control booth reading and eating. Martin had produced Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, one of many landmarks of music that he oversaw, but he would speak “only if he was called on by the Beatles” while they made theWhite Album.
