Actors have been cast to play Marianne Faithfull and Mick Jagger in another new biopic

A Marianne Faithfull biopic is reportedly in the works, and Finnish director Zaida Bergroth is set to direct it.

This happens despite there being another work in progress with Lucy Bointon as the protagonist.

Lucy Boynton, who played Freddie Mercury’s closest friend Mary Austin in Queen movie Bohemian Rhapsody, plays Marianne Faithfull in a biopic.

Delayed by the pandemic, Faithfull was based on Marianne’s astonishing 1994 autobiography, which charted her rise to rock aristocrat, then the drug addiction tailspin that bottomed out in homelessness, and her subsequent recovery.

And now the movie world is preparing to celebrate her with the biopic Faithfull, which is directed by Ian Bonhôte and starring Lucy Boynton, Mary Austin of Bohemian Rhapsody.

But it’s rumoured that Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes star Freya Allan will play the iconic musician who passed away in January in a film simply titled Marianne. It’s also reported that Jojo Macari of Sex Education is in talks to play Mick Jagger, who was famously in a relationship with Faithful in the late 1960s.

With the project still in pre-production, talks are being had with potential buyers led the U.K.’s Altitude Film Sales at the European Film Market in Berlin.

A project synopsis has been released: “From angel-innocent pop icon, actress of stage and screen and long-time muse and girlfriend of Mick Jagger, to homelessness, addiction, and ignominy. Marianne will depict Marianne Faithfull’s rollercoaster ride from the brightest lights of the wild 1960s of her youth, to fallen golden girl and then her remarkable phoenix-like rise and resurgence” that “establishes her as one of the great icons and true artists of our time”.

Written by Julia Taylor-Stanley of Artemis Films and co-produced alongside Roosa Toivonen, this is a resurgent project after Taylor-Stanley had previously tried to get something similar off the ground to no avail. Marianne is being produced by Julia Taylor-Stanley of Artemis Films and Finnish producer Roosa Toivonen. Taylor-Stanley had been shepherding a previously announced Marianne Faithfull biopic that fell apart. (full story on Farout)

From the other biopic, Lucy Bointon (Picture above), talks about her meeting with Marianne Faithfull: "She was everything you would want her to be and more smart,(says Bolton) with that wry sense of humour,” she says. “[Marianne] looked me up and down while analysing: ‘Can she do this?’ And then concluded: ‘Yeah, OK’.’ Just to share that time and space with her was the coolest.”

“Marianne Faithfull looked me up and down and said: ‘Yeah, OK'”
One of the reasons Boynton accepted the role, she says, is because it offered her the chance to redress Faithfull’s image. She sees a true creative whose achievements have often been minimised by sexism, whether it was being dismissed by her own manager as “an angel with big tits” or being seen as the girlfriend, or at best muse, of Mick Jagger, rather than for her own artistic works.
