It happened in 1970, when the Detroit rocker received a somewhat strange proposal. He recalled it himself several years later in the BBC television series 'Never Mind the Buzzcocks': "I had an invitation that said, 'Elvis wants to meet you'".
Alice Cooper was one of four people summoned to the hotel room that night with the King of Rock 'n' Roll at the Las Vegas Hilton.
As Cooper recalled, the other three were actress and singer Liza Minnelli, inventor of the Chubby Checker twist, and porn star Linda Lovelace. The group climbed united and compact in the elevator and when they reached Elvis' floor they were searched to verify that no one had weapons with them, "which was a little silly, because once inside there were guns everywhere", observed a perplexed. Cooper.
Moments later he came face to face with Elvis Presley. "He says to me, 'Hey, man. You're the one with the snake, aren't you?' I replied, 'Yes.' And he, 'It's cool, man. I wish I thought so.' "Moments later, Presley motioned for Cooper to follow him into the kitchen and ..." He opens a drawer, takes out a loaded .38, a barreled .38. short, he puts it in my hand and says, 'I'll show you how to get this gun out of someone's hands.' "
Alice Cooper has never forgotten the incredible experience of pointing a loaded gun at one of the greatest icons of all time and jokingly continues her story: "The little devil here on my shoulder says, 'Shoot him'. L 'little angel on the other side says,' Don't kill him. Just hurt him. ' Before I could decide what to do, I was on the floor. I had his boot on my throat and I was like, 'Argh! Okay, Elvis.' "
The muscular guitarist, who performed in Cooper's band in the mid-'80s, replaces Nita Strauss, who announced her departure from the group earlier this week.
"I'm looking forward to welcoming back Kane Roberts for our shows in September and October," Cooper said in a press release. "We've been friends all this time, and he's always been one of my favorite guitarists. He's bringing more muscle to the Detroit Muscle Tour. We've always had a swinging door policy where players can come and go, so it's very exciting to get back on stage with Kane. The fans are in for a real treat at these shows. It's gonna be a blast. Kane Roberts, Ryan Roxie, and Tommy Henriksen on guitars? Hell yeah!"
Alice Cooper guitarist Nita Strauss announced that she's leaving the shock-rocker's band after nearly a decade and is canceling her festival dates with her solo band for the rest of the year.
"After this absolutely incredible run in Europe, it is bittersweet for me to let you guys know that I will not be joining the Alice Cooper band for the upcoming fall tour," Strauss wrote in an Instagram post, which you can see below. "I will also regretfully have to cancel the festival dates my solo band had planned for the rest of the year."
The rocker, who is currently finishing up the spring leg of his North American tour before he tours Europe from late May to early July, announced the fall series of tour stops on his social media yesterday (April 12)
