Ariana Grande secured her sixth Number 1 album Petal

Ariana Grande has secured the pole position on the Official Albums Chart with her latest release, petal, earning her sixth consecutive UK Number 1 album.

The superstar’s eighth studio project enters the chart at the top, joining her impressive tally of UK chart-toppers alongside Dangerous Woman (2016), Sweetener (2018), thank u, next (2019), Positions (2020), and eternal sunshine (2024).

The chart success arrives just ahead of Grande's return to the UK for the upcoming leg of her eternal sunshine tour, which includes ten sold-out performances at The O2 in London.

Fans in Montreal just got the biggest surprise yet on Ariana Grande‘s Eternal Sunshine Tour, with the pop superstar debuting an unreleased track from her fast-approaching new album, Petal, live on stage.

At the Tuesday night (July 28) performance at Bell Centre in the Canadian province, Grande expanded her usual setlist to include a performance of “Petal,” the title track of her eighth studio album arriving at the end of the week. Wearing the white dress she sports toward the end of her set — which concludes with her being pulled up to the sky by a UFO — the vocalist premieres the song’s slinking verses and ascending, atmospheric chorus.

“All of my favorite stories end in some kind of catastrophe/ But I don’t need someone to save me/ ’Cause this music and I will never die,” she sings over harmonies and her drummer’s pounding percussion. “Tired of printing endless pictures of a life that isn’t mine/ Trying different boys on for size/ If this is my curse, I’ll let it rise.”

Elsewhere in Tuesday’s show, Grande sang part of “Worst Behavior” from the deluxe edition of her 2021 Positions album for the first time live.

The next day, Grande shared Instagram photos from the set of her upcoming visual project — likely a music video, the 1950s-esque teaser for which she dropped earlier Tuesday — and captioned it with more “Petal” lyrics. “just as long as she keeps getting it right heartbreak won’t bite,” she wrote. “this is paradise.”

In the teaser, the Wicked actress debuted a new character accompanying her Petal storytelling universe. “Hello, I’m Pepper,” she tells a receptionist in the black-and-white clip. “I’m here for the audition.”

Petal is set to drop Friday (July 31), two years after the release of Eternal Sunshine, which spent three weeks atop the Billboard 200 and produced two Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hits: “Yes, And?” and “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love).” The lead single of Grande’s next album, “Hate That I Made You Love Me,” debuted at the top of the Hot 100, marking her 10th career No. 1 hit.
