"It was because I just was — I was nervous and I knew of the people around him, and it wasn’t that they were bad people, it's just that I was kind of nervous of Elvis reputation," the "Believe" singer revealed.
"I’m really shy when I’m not working and kind of shy around men," she expressed. "And the reason I go out with young men is because men my age or older — well, now they’re all dead — but before they just never, they were always terrified to approach me and younger men were the only ones that did."
Cher's boyfriend, music executive Alexander "A.E." Edwards, is 40 years younger than her. She'll turn 78 on May 20.
Elsewhere in the interview, Cher spoke about the incredible influence her mother had on her singing, her friendship with Meryl Streep, and how her current boyfriend, Alexander Edwards, introduced her to the Tupac catalog (“I was so taken aback by the depth of the words,” Cher said). The pop star also spoke about one of her most significant contributions to music: Using auto-tune on her 1998 smash, “Believe.”

While Cher's UK chart debut originally came in the form of Sonny & Cher’s chart-topping duet I Got You Babe in 1965, her debut solo single All I Really Want To Do broke the UK Top 40 the same month, and Cher has gone on to chart a solo single of new material in the Top 40 in every decade since.
This means Cher surpasses previous record-holder Shirley Bassey, the Welsh singer-songwriter being 70 years, 4 months old when The Living Tree peaked at Number 37 in 2007.
