Cher Says She Never Sings Around the House: ‘I Don’t Like My Voice’

"It's like, have you ever heard yourself talking?" she says in a new interview.

Despite having 30 charting albums on the Billboard 200, 12 top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 and selling more than 100 million records worldwide, Cher is not a fan of her own voice.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight published Friday (Oct. 27), the “Believe” singer revealed that she doesn’t sing around the house either. “Never. OK? Never,” she told the outlet when asked if she sings her hits at home. “I don’t like my voice. I just don’t like it. It’s like, have you ever heard yourself talking?”

“There are lots of things that I respect about [Madonna],” Cher says in a longer clip that can be found on YouTube. “I think that she knows how to work the business like nobody I’ve ever seen before.

“And there’s something about her that I don’t like. She’s mean. I don’t like that.”

Cher goes on to recount her impression of Madonna when the “Vogue” diva visited her home with her then-husband Sean Penn.

“I remember having her over at my house a couple of times because Sean and I were friends, and she just was so rude to everybody,” she recalls.

“It seems to me that she’s got so much that she doesn’t have to act the way that she acts, like a spoiled brat all the time. It seems to me when you reach the kind of acclaim that she’s reached and can do whatever you wanna do, you should be a little more magnanimous and be a little less of a c—t.”

Singer did not appear to be keen on the comparison- The 76-year-old pop icon's response sparked conversation online about comparing younger artists to older ones who are still active.

“Props to her for this,” one person wrote of Cher’s response. “I find the ‘they’re the new (insert artist)’ so offensive especially when the original artist is still alive.”

Dua Lipa has been called the “Cher of our generation” on social media – but Cher herself is not convinced.

Earlier this week, a Twitter user posted a now-deleted tweet with side-by-side photos of Cher at the Grammys in 1974 and Lipa at the same awards in 2021. Both singers were wearing sparkly outfits with butterflies on them in the images. Lipa has not yet responded to the post.
