Journalist Larry Katz  spoke to her in an audio interview that is now digitized at Northeastern University as part of a larger collection of interviews known as the Katz Tapes.

At the time of the interview, Fleetwood Mac had recently released the album “Tango in the Night,” featuring the hit single “Little Lies,” co-written by McVie and her then-husband, Eddy Quintela. She and Katz talked about the band’s reunion after a five-year hiatus and the process of putting the album together with her bandmates amid their tumultuous personal lives.

The Larry Katz collection, 1980-2005 consists of interviews recorded on audiocassettes conducted by Larry Katz, a reporter, critic, columnist and editor at Real Paper (1980-1981), The Boston Herald (1981-2011) and the resulting publications. For decades he interviewed some of the most established names in music as well as overlooked pioneers, talented newcomers and Boston-area legends. Most of the interviews are with musicians and singers, but there are also many with persons involved in the recording, film, theater, television and literary industries.
According to The Mirror when asked by Desert Island Discs host Kirsty Young whether drugs “had something to do with the brilliance of the music you were producing?” McVie replied: “That’s something that we’re never really going to know.”

The singer-songwriter said failed relationships in the band – including splits and affairs – put them all in the depths of despair in the studio. They turned to alcohol, cocaine and even quaaludes tranquilisers to “cheer themselves up” and get through sessions. and never know what impact excessive drug-taking had on the band’s music.

“At my age now, of course, that thing is completely out of the question. I am pretty much a nun now.”
