The grunge icon took to Instagram to share a plaintive version of the track, taken from Rae’s smash hit debut, 2025’s ‘Addison‘. Trading the pop singer’s playful tone for a more mellow vocal, Love said the track was the “saddest song”.

It follows another pop crossover for Love, whose 1994 Hole track ‘Violet’ was recently covered by Slayyyter on triple J’s Like A Version series, prompting praise from Love, who said it was “delightful”.

When NME spoke to Love alongside Michael Stipe back in 1999, she touched on pop music and breaking the mainstream, saying there was a massive difference between doing it in music as opposed to movies.

As for Rae, her debut album scored a four-star-review from NME in an entry that read: “On this record, we learn that Rae’s greatest strength is her sensuality. Her silken voice is what sells the steaminess of smash hit ‘Diet Pepsi’, and her soothing coo adds to the aching intimacy of trip-hop-inspired ‘Headphones On’.
