David Gilmour hypnotizes the Circus Maximus in Rome - 27- Sept. full concert Video

By VMZ Staff on September 28, 2024

David Gilmour is back and in just over two hours he conquered the audience of the Circus Maximus. A result that was not at all obvious

Last night he went on stage in front of a Circus Maximus full of eyes and hearts ready to point out every little flaw, the miracle was accomplished once again. Last night he silenced everyone, with a show that no one will ever forget.

David Gilmour played some Pink Floyd classics for the first time in several years during   his first performance of the new tour.
In support of his Number 1 solo album ‘Luck and Strange’, David Gilmour plays residencies in Rome, New York, Los Angeles and London’s Royal Albert Hall over the next few months.

The two shows on Friday evening  and Saturday afternoon  were   rehearsals for David Gilmour’s upcoming residencies in Rome, London, New York and Los Angeles in support of his Number 1 album ‘Luck and Strange.’

He also debuted several songs from ‘Luck and Strange’ including ‘The Piper’s Call’, ‘Between Two Points’ and ‘Dark and Velvet Nights’ – however over half of the setlist was made up of Pink Floyd material.

Opening with his ‘Rattle That Lock’ track ‘5 A.M.’ and closing with a life-affirming rendition of Pink Floyd opus ‘Comfortably Numb,’ David Gilmour and his band, swathed in a laser-strewn lightshow, performed the same setlist at both concerts.

Seven David Gilmour solo songs had their live debuts – ‘Luck and Strange,’ ‘Black Cat,’ ‘Vita Brevis,’ ‘The Piper’s Call,’ ‘Dark and Velvet Nights,’ ‘Scattered’ and his cover of The Montgolfier Brothers’ ‘Between Two Points.’

Ahead of the shows, Gilmour has told Mojo he’s dropping two Pink Floyd songs he performed on his Rattle That Lock Tour eight years ago – ‘Money’ and ‘Run Like Hell.’

I love ‘Run Like Hell’. I loved the music I created for it, but all that (sings) ‘You’d better run, run, run…’ I now find that all rather, I don’t know… a bit terrifying and violent.”

“‘Another Brick In The Wall’ is another one I shan’t be doing,” states the guitar virtuoso. “I don’t think I’ve done that with my own band, but I certainly did it in the post-Roger Pink Floyd, against my better judgement. The same with ‘Money.’ I won’t be doing that.”

Giving in an insight into the songs he’ll be retaining, Gilmour added: “I’m going to be sticking with the ones that are essentially my music, and I feel some ownership of. ‘Comfortably Numb,’ ‘Wish You Were Here,’ ‘Shine On You Crazy Diamond,’ maybe…”
