David Gilmour's home in Hove is a comfortably nightmare

David Gilmour's £10million seafront mansion has price slashed again.

Gilmour and his wife Polly Samson moved in after construction was completed in 2020. When it first went on the market in 2022, the house was listed at an asking price of £15 million.

Then, after being on sale for more than a year, the price was cut to £10 million in 2023. Even this reduction was not enough to prompt a sale, and the price has now been reduced for a third time as the Pink Floyd frontman struggles to sell up. The house is now listed by estate agents Pereds for a guide price of £8,950,000.

Gilmour recently discovered that a legal oversight means the six-bedroom property he and his wife Polly Samson have lived in for years is actually owned by the Crown.David Gilmour has lived in the house in Hove for years, but it was not put into his name because of an inadvertent admin error

Now he is suing the government to correct the mistake  and asking for a court order transferring the house into his name so he can finally sell it.

In 2014 the firm was dissolved - but due to an oversight ownership wasn’t transferred to him.

Under UK law unless assets of a business are transferred before a company is dissolved, its assets automatically become ‘bono vacantia’ (vacant goods) and belong to the Crown instead.

The couple had the original building demolished last year after it was found to be beyond repair.

They have since set about building a replacement which is true to the spirit of the bathhouse.

Allan Ramsay, 59, an artist at Phoenix Gallery Brighton, admired the work taking place but did not know the building belonged to Gilmour, who is one of the world’s most revered rock guitarists.

The original Medina House dates from 1894, and formerly housed a laundry and women’s slipper baths.

The distinctive three-storey building formed part of the larger Medina Baths complex that stretched to the western corner of Sussex Road, and also contained two swimming pools and men’s slipper baths.

The couple’s new luxury home will have five bedrooms, three with en-suite bathrooms, as well as a study, library, a gym and a courtyard garden.

Once complete, the house is expected to be one of the most valuable properties in the city and also one of the most spectacular.

A resident of Titian Road, Hove, said: “I have been walking along the seafront in Hove since 1995 and the original building was always a wonderful curiosity.

“But it became an eyesore with lots of rubbish piled up outside and squatters inside.

“I think the plans are absolutely fantastic.

“It will be really nice to have something back in that space that looks good and is in keeping with the original design.

“The bath house was a historic monument as far as Hove goes.”
