The Eagles continue to fly high, as Their Greatest Hits 1971-1975 becomes the first album to be certified quadruple platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, marking 40 million units moved since the set’s 1976 release and remaining the RIAA‘s biggest album in terms of U.S. sales and streams.
It stayed at Number 1 for five weeks upon release, and it’s remained enduringly popular half a century on.
The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has confirmed today that ‘Their Greatest Hits 1971 – 1975’ has smashed the 40 million sales barrier and Eagles are the first band to earn a Quadruple Diamond certification.

Additionally, the band’s legendary album, Hotel California, has been re-certified 28x Platinum by the RIAA, scoring the third best-selling album of all time.
Eagles’ 40 million certification is roughly one-eighth of the current U.S. population and more than the entire population of the band’s home state of California.
If 40 million vinyl ‘Their Greatest Hits 1971 – 1975’ records were laid side by side, it would equal 7575 miles, which is the approximate distance from Los Angeles to Cairo, Egypt.
Eagles will continue to make history in March when they set the record for the longest-running Sphere residency after a 12-show run that starts Friday 23rd January.
