No one would mistake Billie Joe Armstrong for a supporter of Donald Trump; the Green Day frontman has routinely taken jabs at the president and his “MAGA agenda” during the band’s concerts. But Armstrong seemed extra fired up during Green Day’s headlining set at Rock Werchter in Belgium on Friday — which just so happened to coincide with Independence Day and Trump’s signing of the so-called One, Big Beautiful Bill stripping Medicaid benefits from millions of Americans.

During the band’s performance of “Holiday”, Armstrong told his crew to cut the lights before leading the crowd in a chant of “Fuck Donald Trump.” While recent sets have also seen Armstrong incorporate political chants during “Holiday” (such as “Fuck ICE” and “No War”), none appear to have been as directly aimed at Trump himself.

That wasn’t the only striking moment of the night, however. Later in the set, Armstrong briefly covered “The Star-Spangled Banner” prior to “Wake Me Up When September Ends.”
