Jennifer Lopez Hints at Retirement From Music After Comeback Album Crashes in Chart Debut

Jennifer Lopez is allegedly hinting at retiring from music after her new album drops on February 16. This Is Me…Now is Lopez’ first album in more than 10 years, and is a sequel to her 2002 album This Is Me…Then.

Despite a major promotional campaign — including a star-studded short film, “This Is Me… Now: A Love Story,” that accompanied the album release — Lopez’s ninth studio LP made an absolutely abysmal debut on the Billboard 200 at No. 38.

Just to put that into perspective, seven of the singer’s previous studio albums debuted in the Top 10 — with 2001’s “J.Lo” opening all the way up at No. 1. And 2007’s “Brave” just barely missed a Top 10 debut at No. 12.

No. 38 is a long, hard fall from glory for a woman who — after making her 1999 debut with “On the 6” —was once running the block in pop.

In a bizarre twist, though, “This Is Me … Now” opens at No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart, which doesn’t factor in the streaming numbers that count the most in today’s market. Basically, no one is buying physical product these days — as Lopez’s chart-topping tally includes only 6,000 CDs and 5,000 vinyl records (as well as 3,000 digital downloads). (New York Post Report)

Speaking with ET about the album, Lopez revealed, “The truth is I don’t even know if I’ll ever make another album after this. “Don’t tell [manager] Benny [Medina] that that’s what I’m thinking — this might be my last album ever.

“I feel like it’s the end of a kind of an era for me and the beginning of a new one, so I would never say never, but right now I feel like I really put my heart and soul into this and I’m very excited and it definitely took a lot out of me,” she continued.

With that bombshell dropped, is it possible Jennifer Lopez might make a foray back into acting? She technically already is, as she’ll be starring in a movie tie-in with her album released on Prime Video. The synopsis of This Is Me…Now: A Love Story describes it as “a narrative-driven, intimate, reflective, sexy, funny, fantastical musical and visual reimagining of [Lopez’s] publicly scrutinized love life.”

Owned by Gregory Milken — one of the city’s wealthiest residents — along with his wife, EJ, the 1.13-acre property in Pacific Palisades listed not even a week ago before the couple scooped it up.

Hitting the market for $64 million, Gregory, EJ and their five children have lived in the home for more than a decade, purchasing the property back in 2009 for $14.5 million.

It is unclear if Lopez and Affleck, who also have five children, will buy the home at its listing price or get a discount.
