The new display, Experience Hendrix – Isle of Wight Festival 1970, is sponsored by Solo Music Agency and features photographs, live footage, and memorabilia from the weekend when Hendrix performed for a crowd of more than half a million.
John Giddings, founder of Solo Music Agency, said: "The reason I restarted the Isle of Wight Festival was because I saw Jimi Hendrix and The Doors in 1970.
"Coming over that hill and seeing 600,000 people united by the same music was a real epiphany for me and has stayed with me forever."
Hendrix’s 1970 appearance remains one of the most iconic moments in UK music history.
The Isle of Wight performance was his last in the UK.
The exhibition coincides with the 20th anniversary of the bronze Hendrix statue in Dimbola’s gardens, commissioned by Mr Giddings and created by sculptor John Swindells.
The museum is already home to a permanent exhibition about the 1970 festival.
Dr Brian Hinton, executive chair of Dimbola Museum and Galleries, said: "Julia Margaret Cameron, who lived and took pioneering photographs at Dimbola in the 1860s, would have had Jimi straight in the old chicken house that was her studio, and immortalised his face, as she did Tennyson’s.
