The song was included on the deluxe edition of her 2024 fifth studio album, Whirlwind.
Lainey co-wrote it with her frequent collaborators Trannie Anderson, and Dallas Wilson, and Harold Arlen and Yip Harburg also received writing credits as the song interpolates the melody of “Over the Rainbow”, which was of course originally written for the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz and performed by Judy Garland.
Lainey’s co-writer, Trannie, shared a post about the huge accomplishment on Instagram, where you can see “Somewhere Over Laredo” at the top of the Billboard U.S. Country Airplay chart, which is one of two charts labels use to officially track their songs performance, along with the Mediabase chart , Whiskeyriff reports.

Lainey went onto straight up call out the “folks that are sitting at home in your mama’s basement eating your Cheetos” who are “trying to pit women against each other,” saying they need to “find something better to do”:
