Lizzo the Award-winning artist known for her versatility as a songwriter, rapper, instrumentalist, and performer—returns with her latest release “Don’t Make Me Love U,” accompanied by an equally compelling visual.
Following the release of her most recent album, Special, in 2023, Lizzo was sued by former workers for sexual harassment and creating a hostile workplace. By 2025, she shared the singles “Love in Real Life” and “Still Down Bad,” and later announced an album titled Love in Real Life, though that has yet to receive a release date.
The track, an expansive and emotionally charged ballad, is produced by longtime collaborator Ricky Reed alongside Cheche Alara, and signals the beginning of a fresh creative chapter in Lizzo’s musical journey.
Directed by Tanner K Williams and shot by Bentley Rawle, the video presents a surreal, visually rich narrative that explores the tension between past and present selves. Framed through the duality of Lizzo and her alter ego “Lizzy,” it delves into themes of self-reflection, personal growth, and transformation. Blending cinematic storytelling with moments of sharp, self-aware humour, the visual offers a layered portrayal of evolution—both introspective and striking in its execution.
